Setup & Support Guide
BBC iPlayer Setup & Sign-In
Get iPlayer signed in on your TV and keep it playing without dropping out.
Using BBC iPlayer on Your Devices
BBC iPlayer requires a BBC account sign-in on every device, and in the UK a valid TV Licence for live and catch-up viewing. Most problems are either a sign-in that has quietly expired or an app that is out of date.
Signing in on a TV or streaming device
- Open the BBC iPlayer app on your television or streaming device.
- Choose Sign In — you will usually be shown a short activation code.
- On a phone or computer, go to the BBC account activation page and sign in.
- Enter the code shown on your television.
Playback and availability
- Restart the device and the router before anything else.
- Check the app has updated — older versions stop working over time.
- Some programmes are only available for a limited period after broadcast.
- Availability is region-restricted, which affects travel and VPN use.
Problems we fix most often
- Being asked to sign in again every few days.
- Activation code not accepted on a smart TV.
- Downloads not working in the mobile app.
- Subtitles or audio description not switching on.
- iPlayer removed from an older television after an update.
