Setup & Support Guide
Norton Setup & Activation
Install it once, activate it properly, and make sure it is actually protecting every device you own.
Setting Up Norton Protection
A security product only protects you if it is installed correctly, activated against your subscription, and left switched on. Most of the Norton problems we see are one of those three things quietly going wrong.
Below is the normal path from a fresh product key to a protected device. If any step stalls, our team can walk you through it on the phone.
Before you start
- Your Norton product key, or the account email used to buy the subscription.
- Administrator access on the computer you are installing to.
- Any older antivirus removed — two security products running together will fight each other.
Installing and activating
- Sign in to your Norton account at the official Norton website.
- Choose the device you want to protect and start the download.
- Run the installer and allow it when Windows or macOS asks for permission.
- Enter your product key if you are prompted for one.
- Let the first full scan finish before you judge performance — it is the heaviest one.
Moving your subscription to a new device
A Norton subscription covers a set number of devices. If you have replaced a laptop or phone, you usually need to remove the old device from your account before the new one will activate.
- Open your Norton account and find the device list.
- Remove the device you no longer use.
- Install on the new device and sign in with the same account.
Problems we fix most often
- “Subscription expired” showing even though you renewed.
- Install failing part-way through, usually because of a leftover antivirus.
- Norton not opening, or the icon missing from the system tray.
- Renewal charged twice, or auto-renew you want turned off.
- A machine that became slow right after installation.
